Four ways in — whether you’re buying your first e-bike, upgrading the one you have, or kitting out for the ride.
Value E-Bikes
The best e-bikes for the money — value-first picks under $1,500, compared on published specs and real running cost, not marketing.
Upgrades & Accessories
The upgrades that make a budget e-bike safer, tougher and nicer to live with — locks, lights, chargers, batteries and tires, compared on the spec that matters.
Apparel & Gear
The cycling gear that earns its place — helmets, shoes and gloves compared on safety rating, fit and value, not brand hype.
Guides & Comparisons
The buying guides and comparisons that answer the real questions — what a bike costs to run, whether budget e-bikes are worth it, and how e-bikes stack up against the alternatives.
Gifts & Deals
Cycling and e-bike gifts that actually get used, chosen for people buying for someone else — plus what really discounts in November, and what does not.
Why trust a site that hasn’t tested anything?
Because we don’t pretend otherwise. Most “we tested 20 e-bikes” roundups didn’t, and can’t prove they did. Here is what we do instead — and every bit of it is checkable.
We read the spec sheet against the price
Every pick is reasoned from the published motor, battery and range figures and what they cost — not from a ride we can't prove we took.
We do the running-cost math
The one number no competitor in the value lane publishes: what a bike actually costs to charge, computed from its battery and the current US electricity rate.
“Not published” is a finding
When a budget brand won't state a true wattage or honest range, we print “Not published” rather than guessing. What a brand hides is information too.
Prices are live and dated
Numbers come from a daily Amazon check and carry the date they were pulled. If the check stops, the price disappears rather than going stale.
We say when to skip
A bigger motor isn't automatically better value. Where a cheaper pick wins for the buyer, that's our pick — commission never decides it.
No fake reviews, ever
There are no invented testimonials, star ratings or 'we rode it for 300 miles' claims anywhere on this site. If we can't source it, it isn't here.

Buying for someone else this year?
Our gift guides are the same research as the rest of the site, re-framed for the person buying rather than the person riding — including which categories you can safely buy without knowing anything about their bike, and the three you should never buy blind.

How this site is funded
Volt & Velo is free to read because some links to products are affiliate links: if you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. It never changes which product we recommend — the reasoning is the same whether a link earns us anything or not.
